About
Ted Forbes has been shooting photographs most of his life. "The first time I saw Arnold Newman's famous Stravinsky portrait", he recalls, "I knew I wanted to make photographs." Specializing in fine art images, Forbes' subjects range from still-life and portraiture to architectural and landscape works. He works primarily in film based mediums as a nice alternative to the now common digital choice.
"Film gives me a warmth and versatility that I can't get with digital images", he states. "Whether I'm shooting pinhole, 35mm or 4x5 I know what I can count on to give my work the consistency and quality that I need." Forbes works mainly in black and white and is one of those old school guys who still does of his own chemical processing. He works with a wide variety of cameras from large format studio cameras to homemade pinhole cameras. "Photography for me involves process and I love to control that process as much as possible. Some of my favorite photos come from cheap, plastic cameras and I guess that's why I'm so fascinated by 'acoustic' photography.
